POPSUGAR Summer Features

This summer I became a POPSUGAR contributor! As someone who has been reading POPSUGAR for years, being asked to be a contributor was incredibly exciting for me and I have enjoyed sharing my voice and stories with the publication’s millions of readers worldwide. It may sound cheesy to say it’s a dream come true, but honestly, it is! Being a writer isn’t necessarily glamorous or easy. It comes with a lot of rejection, criticism and growth. It’s an amazing feeling to keep trying at something and ultimately persevere.

To celebrate the official end of the season, I’m sharing a round-up of my articles that were picked up and published this summer:

My Recent Pregnancy Has Made Me More Career-Motivated Than Ever

This is the article that started it all! Deciding to have children was such a big decision for me and was often filled with dread. I had been led to believe that a woman couldn’t balance both a career and the responsibility of motherhood equally. After becoming pregnant, I became even more determined to throw those ideas out the window and show the world what I’m made of. My feelings of empowerment resulted in this piece. Read it here!

Learning Piano is the Best Decision I’ve Made In Adulthood

I loved taking piano lessons throughout my middle and high school years, but like many of us, I allowed adulthood to get in the way of the some of things that brought the most joy to my life (piano included). Last year, I took the plunge and signed myself up for lessons again after an 8-year hiatus. This is a story of courage (daring to be vulnerable and bad at something) and personal growth. Read it here!

Why Didn’t Anybody Tell Me I’d Gain Weight During My First Trimester?!

Not too long ago I was feeling like a failure for gaining more weight than I was “supposed to” during my first trimester of pregnancy. I learned a lot from that experience. Read it here.

My Family Will Always Have a Pit Bull — Because They’re Sweet, Smart, Loyal Dogs

I can’t tell you how happy it made my heart to have this pitch picked up! Animals and their rights are incredibly important to me and it made me so happy to share a tribute to our late sweet Skeeter who helped so many people overcome their breed discrimination. Read Skeeter (and Albie’s) story here!

I Felt Sad and Anxious After Getting Engaged to the Man I Love

Does the title of this one have you confused? Suffice it to say that emotions are complicated and situations are never as black and white as they may seem or as they are portrayed. A former version of myself would have never shared the personal trials featured in this article, but I think it’s an important story to share in case others are going through something similar. If just one person can relate to this and find comfort in it, then it was worth putting it out there for the world to see. Read it here!

I Wish I’d Known How Effective B-6 Is For Morning Sickness Before Getting Pregnant

To this day, I have not endured anything more physically or mentally challenging than having severe morning sickness for eight weeks straight. Want to learn more about the darkest period of my life and how B-6 made it slightly more livable? Click here.

COVID-19 Has Altered My Pregnancy Experience, and I’m Learning to Accept That

The era of COVID has not been easy on anyone. We’ve all endured an incredible amount – most of which we were not prepared to deal with. No matter how COVID-19 has affected you and your life, I hope you know that your feelings are valid. Even if those emotions feel “small,” please know that they’re not. Everyone’s emotional response to this crisis is valid and deserves to be recognized. I shared some of my own feelings here.

I Have a Very Fluffy Husky, and Can Attest: This Deshedding Tool Is Worth Every Penny

This one was fun to write as it was my first product review for the site! Of course, of all the products out there in the world, my first review would be for this dog brush. Truly fitting if you know me! Check out my review of the FURminator here. P.S. I totally had a ridiculous “proud mom” moment seeing the photo of my Auggie dog chosen for the feature.

Looking Ahead to Fall

This journey is all still new to me but I’m unabashedly proud of myself for continuing down a path I’m passionate about. I’m looking forward to writing more pieces this fall and hope that I can expand my horizons, writing about different topics and experiences.

Share Your Thoughts!

Don’t mind my asking but I’m genuinely curious – did any of these stories resonate with you? Are there any stories you’re interested in reading about? Things you’d like to see featured on POPSUGAR? Let me know in the comments below or send me an email through the contact form on my “about” page!

If interested, you can always find my published works on my POPSUGAR profile, here.
